There are some good jokes and a general good sense of humor presides in this anime. I've always been a fan of the idea of having a secret world that you could travel to outside of boring old Earth (big fan of Narnia as a kid, etc) so I gave this anime a shot.īasically, KMM can be divided into the good, the bad, and the plain old ugly.

That said, I will admit that I watched this series from episode one to the very end and felt generally satisfied having watched it. Otherwise you might want to pass this one up. If this is your sort of thing or the idea of magical escapism appeals to you, you'll like this anime. In a nutshell: an ordinary, average boy (Shibuya Yuri) one day travels through a portal to another world ("Shin Makoku") where he discovers he has some special gifts and he adopts the role of king ("Maou") of the land. Overall, I would recommend Kyou Kara Maou only to people who genuinely enjoy anime or otherwise enjoy the idea of magical escapism. Now, Yuuri has to deal with trying to become a good Maoh, while at the same time attempting to adapt to this land's customs and culture, all in a world where the tension between the humans and Mazoku is reaching its peak. He's kind, considerate, a believer in justice, and not willing to use violence to solve conflicts - not exactly someone they want running a country on the very brink of war. Much to his subjects' dismay, he's totally different from the rulers they're accustomed to. The Maoh is the King of the Mazoku, who are coexisting not-so-peacefully with the humans in this world. If that's not odd enough, he's told that he is to be the next Maoh, just because he has black hair and black eyes. The next thing he knows, he's in a world that vaguely resembles medieval Europe. Instead of just getting a good soaking, he's pulled in. That changed the day he was dunked into a toilet after an attempt to save a classmate from a gang of bullies.
